You'll have to pardon the Bruins if they're a bit sensitive to the dangers of head shots in the NHL game. It was two seasons ago that the Bruins lost Patrice Bergeron for most of the season and almost for a lot longer than that. Sunday, a day after their own Michael Ryder laid a hit on Blake Comeau of the Islanders that was ruled a hit from behind but didn't look too bad, the Bruins saw Marc Savard knocked out by an open-ice elbow to the head by Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke. Cooke, who has a history with the NHL discipline folks, appeared remorseful after he laid out Savard, who suffered a concussion, was taken from the ice on a stretcher and will, in coach Claude Julien's words, be out "for a while." Evgeni Malkin scored early in the third period after former linemate Pascal Dupuis' equalizer as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 on Sunday. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 21 shots by the NHL's lowest-scoring team to help the Penguins end Boston's five-game road winning streak.

Boston Bruins center Marc Savard was carried off the ice with a concussion after being leveled by Pittsburgh forward Matt Cooke's blindside hit with 5:37 remaining in Sunday's game. Savard had just taken a shot from above the circles when Cooke raised his shoulder and struck Savard in the head.
